Cleaning out flood debris near the Big Thompson after a rough thaw
The Challenge
The spring thaw hit hard around Winona, and we got called after a mess of river mud, broken branches, and soaked household debris washed into a property near the Big Thompson corridor. The air still had that wet, cold smell, and the ruts in the yard told us the ground had been soft for days. We had to place the dumpster without tearing up the driveway or blocking access, because the crew on site needed the driveway clear and the cleanup couldn't wait.
The Result
We brought in a low-profile dumpster and set it where the truck could reach it without chewing up the apron, then we laid boards to protect the surface and kept the drop tight to the work area. I remember the load filling fast with waterlogged lumber, carpet, and yard waste, so we swapped out the box before it became a bottleneck. That let the crew keep moving, and the homeowner got the place back in shape before the next round of weather rolled through.
We kept moving after the flood mess, and that saved us a ton of stress.
